Melbourne Water has started works to widen Gardiners Creek, between Burke Road and Tooronga Road. The project will increase the level of flood protection for local properties and the community in high rainfall events.
Impacts on residents/visitors and usage
During these works, local residents may experience some noise and increased traffic whilst this project is completed.
A section of the Gardiners Creek shared path will be diverted during the creek widening works. A temporary diversion for the existing shared pathway has been built through the Coles car park.
Contractors on behalf of Melbourne Water and Coles will be starting works in the Coles car park area in mid November to build a temporary diversion for the existing shared pathway. The diversion works are expected to take a month to complete.
Earth works to improve flood protection by widening Gardiners Creek between Burke Road and Tooronga Road will follow.
CitiPower have completed cable relocation works on Gardiners Creek. This is in preparation for the creek widening works.
The creek widening and bike path detour works began in November 2013 and take approximately six months to complete.
The shared pathway detour will start on Wednesday 8 January and continue until May 2014.
