This information is published pursuant to section 95A(2) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The Waterways Alliance, on behalf of Melbourne Water, proposes to reconstruct the southern bank of the Bunyip Main Drain between 11 Mile Road and 13 Mile Road in Vervale – the works will increase flood protection for local properties and reduce the risk of embankment failure. To create the room required to reconstruct the southern bank, Main Drain Road adjacent to the project will need to be realigned.

The proposed Action is a controlled action under the EPBC Act. The controlling provision is listed threatened species and communities (sections 18 &18A of the EPBC Act) including the Australian Grayling and Southern Brown Bandicoot.

The Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities has advised the project will be assessed by Preliminary Documentation.
