Works to upgrade a stormwater drain in Baxter are now complete.

The project involved increasing the capacity of an existing drain so that two retarding basins could be removed to make way for the Peninsula Link freeway.

The section upgraded runs from the rear of Baxter Pre-School, across Olstead Drive, through Reid Reserve to the former railway alignment.

The project also included construction of a ‘swale’ or open section within the reserve to supplement the underground drain pipe. The swale will only operate during large rain events and at other times will resemble a dry creek bed, providing an attractive landscaped feature within the park.

Construction of the swale required us to move the existing BMX track. As part of the project we built a new BMX track which was designed by @Leisure with input from a local school, children and the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

The project is being undertaken by the Pipelines Alliance, a partnership between Fulton Hogan, Jaydo, GHD and Melbourne Water.

Community involvement

We are working closely with surrounding residents, Baxter Pre-School, the Baxter Residents and Traders Progress Action Committee (BRAT PAC) and Mornington Peninsula Shire to manage construction impacts, particularly within the reserve and around the pre-school.
