Government and Industry
We work closely with government regulators and industry partners to deliver excellence in everything we do.
Government
EPA Victoria and the Department of Health regulate the environmental and public health aspects of our business.
The Essential Services Commission regulates prices and monitors service performance.
We also work across several arms of the Victorian Government, including the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Sustainability Victoria and the Department of Treasury and Finance.
Local councils have responsibility for local drains, road networks and street and property drainage that feed into the regional drains, rivers and creeks. We work closely with local councils to deliver projects that improve flood protection and the health of our rivers and creeks.
Other government-related groups we work with include Aboriginal Affairs Victoria and Heritage Victoria to ensure our history and heritage is preserved for future generations.
Our government partners include:

Industry
Our industry partners include developers, builders and landowners. The aim of these partnerships is to ensure that:
- the drainage system continues to function properly as Melbourne grows
- any new development is adequately designed to protect people and property from floods
- the health of local waterways is not adversely affected by new developments.
Other industry partners include people who use river water for irrigating crops, such as farmers. The aim is to make sure water is sustainably shared between all users so that licensed water users and the environment receive the water they need.
Our industry partners include:
- Landowners, builders and developers
- Waterway diverters (such as farmers)
- Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority
