We are making a big effort to understand and manage issues facing our community including climate change, population growth and water security.

Climate change

We experience the impact of climate change first-hand as part of our day to day operations.

As such, we are committed to identifying and addressing the possible impacts of a changing climate such as:

  • Reduced rainfall and streamflows
  • Severe bushfires
  • Urban flooding
  • River systems under stress
  • Unseasonably hot days.

Sustainable urban development

By the year 2030, Melbourne’s population will have increased by one million.

As the drainage and floodplain authority for the Port Phillip and Westernport region, it is our job to make sure that as Melbourne grows, people and property are protected from floods and our rivers and creeks stay healthy.

Water security

Prolonged drought has forced all sections of our community to rethink our approach to water by using less and diversifying our water sources to include alternatives like recycled water.
