By-law No 1: Water Supply Protection

As a water authority under the Water Act 1989, Melbourne Water has made the Water Supply Protection By-law (PDF, 34kb).

The objectives of this by-law are to:

  1. control access to certain land, water and works under the management and control of Melbourne Water for the purposes of protecting the water catchment or water supply system;
  2. prevent pollution of, or damage to, certain land, water or works forming part of Melbourne Water's water catchment or water supply system;
  3. provide for the care, protection and management of land, water and works owned by, vested in, or under the control or management of Melbourne Water for the purpose of discharging its water supply functions under the Act; and
  4. provide for the publication of notices setting out the land, areas and works that are subject to access or activity prohibitions provided for in this by-law.

The objectives of this proposed by-law are to:

  1. manage and protect certain land, rivers, creeks, assets and works under the management and control of Melbourne Water;
  2. prevent or minimise interference with, or obstruction of, the flow of water;
  3. prevent or minimise damage to, or pollution of, designated rivers or creeks or designated land or works and to prohibit the deposit of material in or near them;
  4. prohibit or regulate the removal of any material from land forming part of a designated river or creek or designated land or works; and
  5. regulate activities carried out on land forming part of designated rivers or creeks or designated land or works.

This by-law contains amendments to the former "By-law No. 2: Waterways and Drainage Protection".
