Waterways Operating Charter

The Waterways Operating Charter sets out responsibilities and overall goals for managing waterways and drainage. It defines the works and services required to achieve the stated 10-year goals. The Charter also accounts for legislative responsibilities, community expectations and the level of investment available.

The Charter was prepared in consultation with an external Steering Committee and in liaison with the Waterways Advisory Committee, and takes into account:

  • the expectations of the community
  • the responsibilities assigned by legislation
  • the financial resources available for waterways and drainage management

A new Waterways Operating Charter has been developed to incorporate service requirements for the whole of the Port Phillip and Westernport region.

Also proposed, subject to consultation with stakeholders and the community, is the creation of a strategic advisory committee. A number of locally based consultative forums will also be held to develop a new model for community and stakeholder engagement. The consultative forums will include representatives from the community, local and state government.
