George Charakos
Energy Efficiency Coordinator
I joined Melbourne Water as a graduate in 2006 after completing a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering. I have worked in many interesting areas of the business, including land management, water resources planning and water supply operations. I currently complete energy efficiency audits and study the operation of major mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. A key focus of my role is to ensure we comply with the federal government’s Energy Efficiency Opportunities Program, which requires large energy-using businesses to conduct energy efficiency studies at key sites. Melbourne Water is a great place to work and I particularly enjoy working with a wide range of people from across the business to help improve energy efficiency.

Operations Delivery Leader, Western Treatment Plant
I joined Melbourne Water as a graduate in 2006, after finishing a Science and Business degree. Since then I have worked in different parts of the business and am currently involved in the day to day operations of the Western Treatment Plant, which treats over half of Melbourne’s sewage and produces Class A recycled water. We are always looking for ways to improve efficiency, minimise operational risk and reduce our impact on the environment. We have a great team at the Western Treatment Plant – everyone is willing to share their knowledge to help solve a problem. I love working at Melbourne Water because I learn something new every day.

Luke Dykes
Culture and Engagement Specialist, People and Safety
After completing a BA in Professional Communication, I commenced as a graduate at Melbourne Water in 2005 in the role of Communications Support Officer. Since then I have had roles in community relations, media monitoring, advertising, internal communications, web and intranet. In my current role as Culture and Engagement Specialist I provide support for Melbourne Water’s culture program and key engagement activities. I enjoy the variety of this role and the different challenges and opportunities it brings. I feel very lucky to be working for an organisation that is aware of the importance of sustainability not only for our business but also for the environment and community.

Anushia Sivanesan
Graduate, Public Relations
I started at Melbourne Water in 2008 after completing a Public Relations degree. The graduate program is a great opportunity to work in many roles across the business. Through my rotations I’ve worked in internal communications, media relations, and now stakeholder engagement. My current role involves looking at ways to strengthen relationships with our key stakeholders, including local councils and the retail water companies. The friendly, supportive culture at Melbourne Water makes it a great place to work and there are fantastic opportunities for a graduate – I’ve filmed footage from a helicopter, given a speech at Parliament House in Canberra and worked with Indigenous communities, amongst other things. There’s always a new challenge, which keeps things interesting.
