There are several large projects currently underway in Patterson Lakes, including:

Patterson Lakes jetty replacement program

What does the project involve?

From 2010, Melbourne Water will be undergoing a three year jetty placement program in Patterson Lakes. Over this period, Melbourne Water plans to replace around 260 jetties in the Tidal Canals area. The existing jetties are around 15 years old and need replacing to provide safer facilities to boat owners and users and a refreshed amenity for all.

The project will replace the existing jetties with new structures that are as functional and better than the current infrastructure. There are two options jetty owners/users can upgrade their exiting jetty to, a timber jetty or a floating pontoon.

Programme of works

The upgrade will be divided into stages of jetty replacement, with jetties in the poorest conditions to be upgraded first.

Melbourne Water is committed to working with all jetty owners and users to deliver this upgrade in the most efficient manner, keeping in consideration the options and wishes of all involved.

Patterson Lakes tidal gates replacement project

What does the project involve?

Melbourne Water is replacing the existing tidal gates at Whalers Cove, Runaway Bay and Town Centre at Patterson River.

The existing Patterson River tidal gates are at the end of their safe service life and therefore need to be replaced. The project aims to provide better flood protection to the Patterson Lakes area and accommodate for a one-in-one hundred year flood event.

Programme of works

To minimise unavoidable impacts on the community as much as possible, these critical works will be staggered. Works will commence at Whalers Cove from June 2010 and be active for a period of around six months. Works to replace the tidal gates at Runaway Bay and Town Centre will occur simultaneously from 2011.

Melbourne Water is committed to minimising impacts as much as possible, assuring the safety of the community and works crews at all times, and delivering the project in the most efficient manner.

The upgrade is due for completion in 2011.
